Street Musicians in Basel

For Matthew on his birthday

Remember the hawkers of beauty, the songsters

who peddle music in the sunshine,

who sit in the corners, strum strings or beat drums,

and charm us as we stroll or dine.

In the cafes and markets and side streets,

they play, sing and then disappear.

To what homes do they go?  You may never know.

So thank them with coin while they’re here.
